The foundation of Abaci is rooted in the idea of going back to basics and using only pure, natural ingredients. Plants have been used for their medicinal purposes for centuries and though green beauty may be ubiquitous now, the concept is not novel.
We wanted to create a product that could harness plant potency to restore at a cellular level, with branding that could transport the senses to a balmy summer afternoon laying underneath an orange tree listening to the soft vibrations of honeybees. An ambitious idea for a small balm, but nature has consistently been at the core of our creation and it would be a total contradiction to jeopardize it.
There is a delicate balance to creating a luxury beauty product and considering our environmental impact for future generations. It took us over two years to source ingredients from around the world that met the highest standards of organic and sustainable farming practices. But, we believe the results are worth the extra effort.
Organic Ingredients and Responsible Farming Practices
From organic oils and butters to sustainably sourced beeswax and hyaluronic acid, we carefully chose the best ingredients to nourish your lips and honor our natural sources.
When formulating with ingredients in their raw state, there is unquestionable difference in quality between organic and non-organic varieties. As examples, organic cold-pressed pomegranate oil is viscous, rich with an earthy aroma versus paler, thinner consistency in processed alternatives; organic cold-pressed avocado oil is a deep, emerald green, whereas its refined counterpart is thinner and yellow, sometimes even clear. We chose to use organic, pure ingredients to maximize and reap all the benefits they provide in their raw state.
Our Lip Balm is packed with plant botanicals, organic oils and some of the most sought-after eco-friendly ingredients in the world. Every single ingredient has been scrutinized to ensure it is COSMOS® approved or certified to the USDA organic standard. The only exception is our natural preservative, non-GMO Vitamin E oil, which makes up less than one percent of our entire formula.
The farmers we collaborate with share our passion for sustainability. Responsible farming includes practices like rotating crops to ensure the soil stays rich and fertile, using renewable energy sources and using only natural fertilizers.
We choose our partners carefully to ensure their practices meet our high standards. Many of them have decades of experience perfecting sustainable practices to produce the highest quality of ingredients.

Environmentally Conscious Packaging
Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in each detail of packaging and our shipping processes—all targeted towards minimizing waste.
Abaci Lip Balm comes in a larger-than-standard ultraviolet recyclable glass jar, which helps to extend its shelf life and protects the Balm from damaging rays that could potentially diminish its effectiveness. We purposefully chose a larger volume for a longer-lasting product that reduces order frequency and shipments.
For our outer packaging, we chose FSC-certified recyclable card because it is managed with consideration for its impact on wildlife and the environment. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) provides the highest standard of protection for endangered species and forests, ensuring that forests are properly managed; trees that are harvested for wood or paper are either replaced or nurtured as they regenerate naturally. The certification is widely accepted by environmental agencies as a gold standard.
Even the paper and packaging we use in our shipments is sustainably sourced. Our eco-friendly branded tissue paper is also FSC-certified and printed with soy-based inks, which unlike petroleum-based inks, comes from a renewable resource.
